The Canadian Salsa Festivals Project (CSFP) is expanding its reach with the inaugural Salsa at Niagara Falls, a free festival set for September 12–13 from noon to 10 p.m. each day. Presented in partnership with Niagara Falls Tourism, Niagara Parks Commission, Fallsview Casino Resort, and TLN Media Group, the event will transform the Niagara River Parkway into a vibrant celebration of Latin music, dance, food, and culture, capped with nightly fireworks at 10 p.m. choreographed to salsa music over the Falls.
The festival’s lineup includes a special appearance and free concert by salsa star Frankie Negrón on Sunday, September 13 at 8 p.m. More than 300 performers will take the stage across two live entertainment areas, with Juno-nominated Andy Rubal headlining Saturday. Award-winning Latin singer and entertainer Yani Borrell and Aiona Santana are also set to perform. Dedicated dance zones will offer non-stop lessons throughout the weekend, including at the Oakes Garden Theatre, while world-class dance performances and interactive lessons will feature schools from across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, as well as local Buffalo dance schools MOVIEmiento Latin Dance Studio and Fanny Olaya.
A vibrant marketplace will showcase authentic Latin cuisine and specialty vendors, rounding out the cultural experience. The event marks the newest stop on the Canadian Salsa Festivals Project tour, which has brought communities together for more than two decades. As a federally incorporated not-for-profit, the CSFP also organizes the annual TD Salsa in Toronto Festival, Canada’s largest celebration of Latin arts, music, and culture. More information about the organization is available at https://www.canadiansalsafestivalsproject.org.
The choice of Niagara Falls as a host city underscores the destination’s appeal as a cultural hub. According to Niagara Falls Canada, the city welcomes more than 152 million people within a one-day drive, making it an ideal location for a large-scale cultural event. The festival is expected to draw visitors from across Ontario, Canada, and beyond, providing a significant boost to local tourism and hospitality businesses during the shoulder season. Partners like Fallsview Casino Resort, which offers 372 luxury rooms, a 1,500-seat Avalon Theatre, and the 5,000-seat OLG Stage, are poised to benefit from increased foot traffic. Niagara Parks, a self-financed agency of the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming since 1885, will host activities at its scenic venues, further integrating the festival with the natural wonder of the Falls.
For local businesses, the influx of visitors presents opportunities in dining, retail, and entertainment. The festival’s free admission lowers barriers to participation, potentially attracting a diverse audience and fostering cultural exchange. The involvement of TLN Media Group, Canada’s most influential multicultural media company, ensures broad promotion through its channels, including TLN TV and Univision Canada. This media partnership could amplify the event’s reach, driving attendance and engagement. Additionally, the festival aligns with Niagara Falls’ strategy to position itself as a four-season destination, extending tourism beyond the peak summer months. The nightly fireworks, a first for the salsa festival series, add a unique spectacle that could become a signature attraction.
As the CSFP continues to expand, Salsa at Niagara Falls represents a strategic move to blend Latin culture with one of Canada’s most celebrated tourism destinations. The event’s success could pave the way for similar cultural festivals in other regions, promoting multiculturalism and economic growth. For residents and visitors alike, it offers a chance to experience world-class entertainment against the breathtaking backdrop of the Falls, reinforcing the area’s reputation as a premier entertainment destination.
