SolarBank Corporation has unveiled plans for a 6.9 megawatt (MW) community solar project in Brooklyn, Nova Scotia, a pioneering effort under Canada's first Community Solar Program. This initiative is poised to produce clean energy sufficient for around 900 households, aligning with Nova Scotia's objectives to reach 80% renewable energy usage by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2035.
The Brooklyn solar project, owned by AI Renewable Fund, represents one of the three contracts awarded under the Community Solar Program so far. SolarBank will serve as both developer and builder, applying its vast experience in community solar projects from the United States to this Canadian venture. Construction is set to begin in Spring 2026, with an anticipated completion by Summer 2026, and an estimated total development cost of $13.9 million.
This project not only reflects SolarBank's dedication to promoting renewable energy but also emphasizes the critical role of community solar programs in environmental sustainability. By supplying clean energy to hundreds of homes, the initiative advances efforts to combat climate change and transition to a sustainable economy. It also demonstrates the effectiveness of collaboration between the public and private sectors in achieving renewable energy targets and encouraging sustainable development.
